David and Story…
Dear LFP Fam,
Stories. They matter. They shape us. Especially the ones that get told over and over again. We can think of the kind of stories that get told around the holidays about celebrations in the past. Especially the memorable ones where something special or unique happened. Stories reveal what we value. The things we strive for. They can also reveal things that are implicit, under the radar. We can debate the meaning and the details of our stories. In our families, or even in our nation. In many ways as the U.S. celebrates 250 years the attention given to how we tell our story is worth paying attention to.
Scripture comes to us in a story as well. It's the most basic form of the good news. It's how our relationship with God is most authentically held. After all, the story of Jacob (or Israel) is one who "wrestles" with God. The story of our faith is how we have wrestled with what it means to be human, and what it means to have something to do with God.
The story of David is a preeminent story in the Bible. This summer, we'll explore that story and we'll discover God in David's story -- hopefully our own stories too. Would you read along with us this summer the story as it is told in 1 and 2 Samuel? And look for how God is working in your story? First, Do you have a favorite dish? Maybe one in your family that has a STORY! Or maybe it's just so well loved it deserves to be shared. Or even entered into a light and fun competition if you wish! Next Sunday, June 14 is our annual Summer Cook-off. It's a potluck and we're looking for any and all to sign up to bring something. It takes many hands to pull this off, so there's plenty of room to help setup as well, especially since we hope to be outside.

Second, the story of God shaping our lives together is one we want to pay attention to. Our leadership teams want to know the shape of that story right now for you and for us as a church. Especially as that story reveals how we as a people are being formed.
To that end, beginning on June 14 we will have a two-week window where we are asking as many of us as possible to complete a Spiritual Life survey. We want to know how we can grow! Our teams will be using this check-in to give us a base line as we design opportunities for connection and formation. Your input is very important. The main way will be to access it online and we will help. If needed we will work to meet you where you are at, even if you need a paper and pencil survey.
Oh, and just a little shameless plug if you're interested in another choral performance. My community choir, Concord, is doing it's last concert of the season this Saturday, June 6 at 7pm in Bellevue. I really love the pieces we have been working on and our choir, fresh from their performance in Carnegie Hall, is really hitting it's stride. Tickets and info.
