Communion, Community, Commission
Dear LFP Family and Friends,
What do you long for in a church community? How do you see yourselves growing this year? If you have traveled with Christ in a faith community over the years, what have been the most meaningful parts? Let me suggest three important words:
Communion.
We are made for relationship with God. "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you" said Augustine, the bishop of Hippo. God's purpose in dwelling with us is aimed at communion. Being in "union" together.
Community.
Humans are made for relationship, right to the account of creation. The early church was "together" and had "all things in common." Whatever we might think of this early experiment in faith -- the church has always been plural. There are no "lone rangers" in Christianity.
Commission.
"You will be my witnesses" Jesus told the fledgling church. And they turned the Roman world upside down over the next centuries. Focus on "justice" and "mercy" and "walk humbly" with God, the prophet Micah tells us. The church in the power of the Holy Spirit is always following the mission of God.
Friends, these things make up being the church. They are areas for us to explore as we reflect on how we are living together.
To that end, our leadership team is encouraging everyone who calls this church your home to tell us about your spiritual formation and practice. We want to grow and equip us all in these areas.

Combined Worship and Annual Meeting on October 4 at 10am in Fellowship Hall
This year, in a creative twist of worship and fellowship, our annual meeting will be a combined worship gathering, brunch and meeting all rolled into one!
Come DOWNSTAIRS on the 4th a little before 10am and find a seat and we'll enjoy a communion meal as part of worship. We'll have a quick break after before our annual meeting. Parents, we'll have an activity for kids so that you can stay for the meeting part.
Let me add one more word…
Connection
We want to grow in how we help new attenders and longtime members find connection. To that end, I'm excited to announce that Gary Hansen will be working 5 hours per week as Connection Coordinator to help facilitate this capacity in our church. He's just getting started and will be focusing first on building relationships in the community.
One more thing about connection -- this Sunday, September 27 is Connect Sunday. Think of it like a church networking event. Come downstairs after service and find people associated with various ministries to ask questions, share ideas, and get "connected!"
