May is bustin out…

Dear LFP Family and Friends,

Sunshine has me singing the lyrics to a familiar Roger's and Hammerstein song, "June is Bustin' Out All Over" from Carousel (the musical that Kristen and I met in, by the way):

Then April cried,

And stepped aside,

And along came pretty little May.

May was full of promises,

But she didn’t keep ‘em quick enough for some,

And a lot of doubting Thomases

Was predicting that the Summer’d never come.

I'm glad for pretty little May, arriving tomorrow! Especially for the opportunity we have in May as a church to celebrate 85 years! Or, the moments we can explore what it means to live as generous people in our series God's Story Your Part, volume 2: Generosity, beginning on May 10. Or, the party we're throwing on Friday, May 15 to appreciate our servant leaders at LFP Church.

Before we head into May I have one more bit of news from April worth celebrating, and then a question for you:

The celebration is this: Kim Herbert, our Director for Kids, Youth and Family, has become a candidate for the ministry of Word and Sacrament. What does this mean? Well, it means that Kim has done a lot of work to move through the various stages of preparation for pastoral ministry in the PCUSA. It means that Kim has discerned that he feels called to taking this next step toward ordination. Thankfully for us right now it doesn't mean Kim is going anywhere. He's still committed to living out his call among us at LFPPC. However, it also means we can continue to bless and support his ministry and be a champion of the call that God places on Kim and his family in the years ahead. I hope you'll take a moment to recognize this milestone of discernment for him, and I just thought you should know. Our denomination needs more leaders like Kim, committed to leading people into the way of Christ.

Here's my question for you? Do you have a community that is supporting you in living out the form of your call right now? It might be a close group of friends. Or perhaps it's a small group in this church. If not, how can we support you in this time?

Our Adult Connection and Formation Team is meeting this coming week to continue to refine our plans. We'd love to hear from you.

How can we help you connect to life-giving Christian community for the sake of your formation as a Jesus follower committed to his way?

Reply to this email or drop me a note at jeff@lfppc.org and let's build something special together.

With joy in the journey,

Jeff
