Intentional Belonging

 Dear LFP Fam,

Lent has commenced with the kickoff last night with Ash Wednesday. The season of Lent is an opportunity for us to walk a wilderness road as pilgrims on the way to resurrection. I think we often misunderstand Lent as a dour thing, a time to forsake things just to see if we can do it, or to give our lives a reset.

I couldn’t comment on this any better this year than Andrew Thayer did. He encourages us not to just give up chocolate! Have a read:Please Don’t Give Up Chocolate for Lent

I also wanted to share this week a touching video that goes back to Sesame Street in 1972, when the Rev. Jesse Jackson (who passed away this week) reminded everyone that “I am somebody.” We know we are somebody because God made us in the image of God. Check out this touching video! At LFPPC we have articulated a value that connects with this:

Intentional Belonging — Create welcome space at the table for every person, created in God’s image, to flourish in the wholeness the Spirit intends.

We all find belonging in the care and compassion of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. In holy belonging we are safe to be completely who we are as humans created in the image of God. We strive to embody this toward everyone, encouraging our brothers and sisters to live into God’s wholeness with their unique and precious gifts.

As you walk this Lenten journey in the wildnerness, heading toward resurrection, ask yourself these questions:

How can I more fully live into God’s wholeness for me? How can I intentionally show up for others and help them see that they are somebody, that they belong?

Men, I look forward to seeing you THIS Saturday at 8am for our Men’s Breakfast! (Please sign up so we know how many are coming.)

With joy in the journey,

Jeff
