Your Working Genius

Dear LFP Family and Friends

Have you ever felt energized in one job but drained in another?

In The 6 Types of Working Genius, Patrick Lencioni tells the story of “Bull Brooks”—someone who began his career in banking, where every day felt heavy and difficult. Later, when Bull shifted into marketing, he found work that energized him and brought out his gifts. But after a promotion, he slipped back into frustration. The difference? Not his skills, but whether the work fit how God wired him.

This kind of story often happens not just in our employment, but in our personal lives, even in ways we serve at our church.

Lencioni explains there are six kinds of “working genius” that show up in any church, workplace, or family:

    • Wonder: Dreaming about what could be better

    • Invention: Coming up with creative solutions

    • Discernment: Spotting what will work (and what won’t)

    • Galvanizing: Rallying people to a cause

    • Enablement: Offering support to help others succeed

    • Tenacity: Following through to the finish line

Each of us has two areas that give us real energy, two we’re competent at, and two that leave us drained—even if we can do them. Knowing our “genius” helps us let go of guilt, prevent burnout, and build teams that honor everyone’s gifts.

When we recognize and encourage these different strengths in our community, we help each other serve joyfully and create a place where everyone belongs and thrives.

If you’d like help discovering your own “working genius,” let’s talk!

Better, yet, sign up today for our workshop Discovering Your Working Genius, this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. after worship and learn with a group of people!

Sign up now and there's still time to take the assessment before the workshop, but you don't need the assessment to get value from the workshop.

Also, there's still time to register also for our new members class, called Discovering LFP Church, this Monday, 7:00 - 8:45 p.m.

See you this weekend!

With joy in the journey,

Pastor Jeff
